Instagram Challenge Day 2: Who Are You? Writing a Good Bio
You have 6 seconds to capture my attention and inspire me to take action. That’s three seconds less than the attention span of a goldfish.
Yes, I just said that the human attention span is three seconds less than your average goldfish.
At this point, we are already past that mark! So ready, set go.
Feeling the pressure?
While I don’t want to make this task overwhelming, I do want to highlight the importance of your bio description. When you post a captivating photo, engaged users will not only give it a little heart, they will click through to see your profile.
Here is the instantaneous moment they will decide to either follow or keep perusing.
Writing Your Bio
There are three components to your bio:
- Your Name
- Your Description
- Your URL
We’ll cover your URL in depth later. For now, let’s focus in on your name and description.
Most stores have stick with their store names. That’s a really safe way to go. If you’re looking to add a little variety, you can use the formula Store + description. You’ll find that combination frequently with Instagram influencers.
Your name will be the first part of your first impression.
The second part comes from the description itself. Here you want to blend description, information and a bit of flair. Many sellers also include a creative call to action, from e-mailing them to inviting their tribe to use a specific hashtag to even highlighting current sales.
Note: Keywords won’t improve searchability, but they can help users identify with you more quickly.
Bringing it Home
- Review and update your bio;
- Share your bio in the comments for feedback.
Task Time: 7-9 minutes
Teaser: Tomorrow we’ll dive into tools to help you post every day. In the meantime, don’t forget to add a new post every day.
